Info: I should mention a 948 Herald I sold to a gent on Canvey Island, Essex. I removed the body and sold him the chassis for £85 (the price my father paid in 1968 for the car).
He was using it for the basis of an RMB Gentry kit car.
It was registered 5836 VW. It was an Alpine Mauve saloon S, April 1959. I had fitted it with a 1200 engine when the 948 finally used more oil then I could see through! I sold it to the chap on Canvey in 1974. It was my first car and never failed an MoT. It cost me nothing to run, but petrol.
